Keeping a Positive Attitude

Over the years I have read many books about creating success and I’ve seen speakers talk about being successful. What do all of these speakers and authors have in common? They keep a positive attitude.

It it absolutely the number one most important thing you can do for yourself. I truly believe that your attitude dictates the outcome of your day. Some people have figured this out and they focus everyday on the positive things and the things that they are thankful for. Good things continue to happen to these people and the cycle continues.

Then there are those that focus on the negative. They wake up late, burn the toast at breakfast, and their entire day is shot. All day long, they only focus on the negative things and the day gets worse and worse.

I try to surround myself with positive people. A good positive attitude is contagious and spending time with people who experience and are grateful for the good things in life is much more fun than being stuck with someone who can’t catch a break.

Last weekend I ran into an old friend. He is someone that I haven’t seen in at least a year but we hung out a couple of times two or three years ago.  Honestly, I stopped hanging out with this person because they were a drag to be around.

To make conversation I said, “How have you been?”

“Oh it has been an awful year. I lost my job six months ago and I can’t find any work, My sister-in-law is very sick, my dad isn’t doing too well, and everything bad just seems to be happening to me.”

I didn’t even know what to say. I don’t think it even matters what I said. He would spin it to be negative.

Meanwhile, I have been working to build an online business and have been so successful that I was able to leave my corporate job to begin working from home. In fact, after I quit my job, I was offered another job by a friend that would pay more money than the job I quit.

How is it possible that I was offered a good paying job (that I wasn’t even looking for) in the same industry that my poor friend has been unable to find any opportunity for six months? The difference is that I have a positive attitude and I am the type of person that businesses want to have around them. My friend can’t find those opportunities because he doesn’t believe they are out there. The media says that unemployment is up and the last job laid him off, why even bother looking for a job until the economy gets better, right?

Do yourself a favor and change your attitude today. There are opportunities all around you. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start living life. Believe me, If you start living in the moment and focus on the good things around you more and more good things will happen.

It absolutely works. Try it.
